[10:30:53]<mstenta>andygraybeal: I posted my thoughts on inventory management: https://www.drupal.org/node/2401531

[10:57:15]<andygraybeal>hey rock on, i'll bring up the inventory notes now\
[11:01:53]<andygraybeal>i like it :)
[11:07:47]<andygraybeal>ah snmp is monitoring protocol over the network
[11:09:46]<andygraybeal>the inventory items could have attributes that describe how it is tracked like "location" or "date put into use in the field" ?
[12:40:59]<mstenta>andygraybeal: yes, inventory items (aka "Materials" - or maybe "Supplies") are a type of Farm Asset entity... so they can have location based on Movement logs
[12:41:18]<mstenta>and there will be new log types for actually using the materials...
[12:41:27]<mstenta>still thinking some of that through...
[12:41:30]<andygraybeal>cool
[12:42:02]<andygraybeal>and a way to do preventative maintenance :)
[12:42:08]<andygraybeal>with a scheduler
[12:42:30]<mstenta>yea... that would be a feature for Equipment probably... but maybe for Materials too
[12:42:43]<mstenta>i really need to draw out a diagram of the various types of things... :-)
[12:43:04]<mstenta>the two important categories of items in FarmOS are: Assets and Logs
[12:43:25]<mstenta>Equipment and Materials are examples of Assets
[12:43:40]<mstenta>Maintenance and Use are examples of Logs
[12:45:15]<mstenta>i'm trying to divide all necessary concepts into those two groups (actually, a third group is Drupal Taxonomies)
[12:45:29]<mstenta>and i'm trying to reduce them down to the least number of entity types, while still be able to represent everything
[12:45:36]<mstenta>gereralization :-)
[12:45:47]<mstenta>... is tricky
[13:02:22]<andygraybeal>i didn't know the designation between equipment and materials
[13:04:11]<andygraybeal>would a compost pile be an asset? and when i turn it be put into the associated log? also can your atmospi thermometers give me readings for the compost pile inside the log, say every half hour?
[13:04:49]<andygraybeal>i'm trying to use your examples with my examples :) i might be messing up the terminology
[13:25:48]<mstenta>andygraybeal: yea, a Compost Pile would be a type of Asset
[13:26:02]<mstenta>and maybe "Turn" is a possible Log type that goes with that asset
[13:26:27]<andygraybeal>ah and temperature log
[13:26:28]<andygraybeal>cool
[13:27:09]<mstenta>yea probably a temperature log
[13:31:33]<andygraybeal>Do Assets have Attribute fields? Like Compost Pile could have the attributes: "windrow | static | aerated pile | in-vessel | other" and "feedstock / material used (including inoculants, rock dust, etc)"
[14:13:18]<mstenta>andygraybeal: yes, each Asset type (Animal, Equipment, Material, Compost, etc) can have fields on it, for defining characteristics of the asset
[14:13:27]<mstenta>Compost could have a "Compost Type" field
[14:13:31]<andygraybeal>awesome
[14:13:49]<andygraybeal>lemme try to load it up again
[14:13:54]<andygraybeal>i gotta try to remember this stuff your saying
[14:14:00]<mstenta>the fields on assets are more for "static" attributes... things that don't change, or aren't really related to time... Logs are for the other stuff
[14:14:53]<andygraybeal>okay i think i was thinking that way, but i cannot be sure
[14:15:01]<andygraybeal>i like it!
[14:15:26]<andygraybeal>i'm gonna give the install another shot and see if ican get this example flushed out!
[14:15:37]<andygraybeal>so i can learn this :)
[14:17:18]<andygraybeal>i can't wait to see the general ledger and farmos integrated :)
[14:17:29]<andygraybeal>and how these ideas are going to get flushed out :)
[14:17:37]<andygraybeal>i'll be your cheer leader
[14:17:52]<andygraybeal>though you don't need one :)
[14:53:15]<mstenta>haha thanks andygraybeal
[14:53:15]<mstenta>andygraybeal++
[14:58:00]<mstenta>gotta run... babysitting a horse farm this week... need to shovel some manure ;-)
[14:58:15]<mstenta>(with a tractor, thankfully)
[14:58:20]<mstenta>talk to you later!
[14:59:12]<andygraybeal>haha see ya. sounds like fun
