[19:36:37]<JJARRINF[m]>So.. I performed some translations to spanish for rel 7.x-1.8, in Localize Drupal.. sadly, it seems that the spanish translation is abandoned...I am really interested in learn about FarmOS.. so I will try to perform some translations from time to time. I own a small farm in Ecuador and really needed a software like FarmOS.. I was getting crazy by loggin my records in MS Excel, almost started a new development project in MS Access for
[19:36:37]<JJARRINF[m]>personal use.. but I discovered FarmOS, and I think it makes much more sense to me to collaborate with you.
[23:46:18]* farmBOT has joined #farmos
[06:05:43]<mstenta[m]>Welcome JJARRINF! Did you use farmOS 1.x? We are currently preparing 4.x for its first release, so things may look a bit different.
[06:05:51]<mstenta[m]>And the strings have changed since 1.x too.
[06:06:14]<mstenta[m]>I'm curious what you mean by "the spanish translation is abandoned"?
[06:06:40]<mstenta[m]>We would welcome any contributions you provide!
[06:09:43]<JJARRINF[m]>Hello, thanks for your response, I am using the Farmier versión, not sure which version is, but that is the last one I found in Drupal translation platform..
[06:10:49]<mstenta[m]>Gotcha - Farmier runs the latest stable release (3.4.5)
[06:11:17]<JJARRINF[m]>And I found in Drupal translation some translates without revision and very few entries in a long time..
[06:11:45]<mstenta[m]>(FYI 7.x-1.8 is version 1.8 - the "7.x" part was the old way of signaling what Drupal version it was compatible with... so farmOS 1.x ran on Drupal 7. farmOS 3.x runs on Drupal 10. farmOS 4.x will run on Drupal 11.)
[06:11:48]<JJARRINF[m]>Or may be I am wrong.. I will check it again
[06:12:15]<mstenta[m]>Interesting - I admit I don't know a lot about how localize.drupal.org works - but maybe what you are seeing are strings for the older version...
[06:12:34]<mstenta[m]>farmOS 1.x is no longer maintained, so perhaps localize.drupal.org marks them as "abandoned"?
[06:13:02]<JJARRINF[m]>Ok, thanks for this clarification
[06:13:50]<mstenta[m]>Versions 2, 3, and 4 have relatively consistent strings, so the translations probably don't change much
[06:14:12]<mstenta[m]>The jump from v1 to v2 was big... but after that changes are much more gradual, and we try to be careful about changing translatable text
[06:14:26]<JJARRINF[m]>I will visit an Organic conference here in Ecuasor in a couple of weeks, it is ok for you if I talk about FarmOS, right?
[06:15:28]<mstenta[m]>Sure!
[06:19:29]<JJARRINF[m]>https://localize.drupal.org/translate/languages/es/translate?project=farm
[06:20:26]<JJARRINF[m]>This is the link I found for translations.. please let me know if that is the wrong URL
[06:20:50]<mstenta[m]>Yes that's correct
[06:21:04]<mstenta[m]>Filter to version 3.4.5 to only see the strings that are in the most recent stable version
[06:21:16]<mstenta[m]>https://localize.drupal.org/translate/languages/es/translate?project=far...
[06:21:34]<mstenta[m]>Two other things to keep in mind:
[06:22:09]<mstenta[m]>1. I don't have any control over localize.drupal.org myself. Strings can be submitted by anyone, but they have to be reviewed and approved by one of the volunteer language maintainers for that language.
[06:23:18]<mstenta[m]>2. farmOS itself is one project, but there are other modules that would have their own translations... For example on Farmier you can also enable modules like Beekeeping, Fungi, Eggs etc.
[06:23:33]<mstenta[m]>And each of those would have it's own set of strings in localize.drupal.org
[06:23:46]<mstenta[m]>eg: https://localize.drupal.org/translate/languages/es/translate?project=far...
[06:26:42]<JJARRINF[m]>Great. I understand that
[06:26:50]<JJARRINF[m]>Thanks a lot
[06:27:16]<mstenta[m]>I'll install Spanish on your instance now... that will help you see what's translated and what isn't
[06:28:37]<JJARRINF[m]>Okay , please don't forget the German language too
[06:28:47]<mstenta[m]>Oh yes! Thanks for the reminder. :-)
[06:28:52]<mstenta[m]>Will do.
[06:29:56]<mstenta[m]>Which would you like to be the default?
[06:31:40]<mstenta[m]>Also you asked about downloading data... there are a few ways...
[06:32:27]<mstenta[m]>The API provides the most complete access to all data - but assumes you can write code to access it
[06:32:49]<mstenta[m]>There is also a CSV export module, which adds the ability to export CSVs of most lists
[06:33:03]<mstenta[m]>CSVs do not include everything, but might include everything you care about
[06:38:21]<JJARRINF[m]>English is ok as default
[06:38:48]<mstenta[m]>OK Spanish and German are installed
[06:39:08]<mstenta[m]>You can change your user's language via "Edit Profile" when you hover over your username in the top right corner
[06:39:34]<mstenta[m]>There may still be bugs with translations... so let us know if you find anything weird
[06:39:51]<mstenta[m]>All testing has been on a volunteer basis
[06:41:16]<JJARRINF[m]>mstenta[m]: Thanks, I will work on it today
[06:44:44]<JJARRINF[m]><mstenta[m]> "Filter to version 3.4.5 to..." <- I just found my translations, I guess they need to be reviewed, I will try to contact the Spanish group leader for approve my posts..
[06:45:04]<mstenta[m]>Great!
[06:45:24]<mstenta[m]>pcambra might know who would be best to contact
[06:45:52]<pcambra[m]>Jose can do that, I think I can do it as well
[06:45:55]<pcambra[m]>send me links :)
[06:47:01]<JJARRINF[m]>https://localize.drupal.org/translate/languages/es/translate?project=far...
[06:48:05]<mstenta[m]>JJARRINF: you can filter by "submitted by" and "status" to see only the ones you submitted that are awaiting approval (I think?)
[06:48:38]<mstenta[m]>https://localize.drupal.org/translate/languages/es/translate?project=far...
[06:49:16]<pcambra[m]>Me lo reviso y las apruebo!
[06:49:42]<JJARRINF[m]>mstenta[m]: yes..
[06:50:36]<mstenta[m]>JJARRINF: FYI after approval the new translations won't appear immediately in your site - I forget how it works exactly but I think they get downloaded when cron runs (which would be daily)
[06:50:56]<mstenta[m]>But it will be automatic... just not immediate :-)
[06:51:27]<JJARRINF[m]>Sorry guys, I need to go "farming" now.. it is almost 7h00 here where I live.. talk to you later... and again thanks a lot!
[06:51:34]<pcambra[m]>I'm having some questions, I think we need context on translations of things like "asset" and "input"
[06:51:39]<mstenta[m]>Thanks JJARRINF! Happy farming! :-)
[06:51:54]<pcambra[m]>Asset translated as "activo" can be misinterpreted with an "active status"
[06:52:22]<mstenta[m]>Ahh ... I think this was proposed at some point, but maybe never finished
[06:52:30]<mstenta[m]>(adding context)
[06:52:33]<pcambra[m]>yeah
[06:52:37]<mstenta[m]>Looking for issue...
[06:52:59]<mstenta[m]>https://github.com/farmOS/farmOS/issues/476
[06:56:01]<mstenta[m]>I also have to run! The sun is risen here and kids need to get ready for school. :-)
[06:56:24]<mstenta[m]>Thanks pcambra and JJARRINF!
[07:06:20]<pcambra[m]>I've approved the ones that are clear to me
[07:09:55]<pcambra[m]>These are the untranslated with suggestion https://localize.drupal.org/translate/languages/es/translate?project=far...
[07:13:31]<pcambra[m]>How about "asset" -> "recurso"?
[07:17:52]<pcambra[m]>I think that's the most specific word I can find
[07:20:18]<pcambra[m]>"No strings found with this filter. Try adjusting the filter options."
[07:20:20]<pcambra[m]>All done
[08:34:00]<JJARRINF[m]><pcambra[m]> "How about "asset" -> "recurso"?" <- I think Asset is more close to "Activo", from a management perspective "recurso" is more close to "resource" I think.. sometimes the farmers forget the fact that almost anything in the farm is an Asset.. Fixed Asset (as a tractor, or a green house) or a tangible asset (as a corn field)..
[08:35:16]<JJARRINF[m]><pcambra[m]> "Asset translated as "activo" can..." <- It will depend upon the context.. but I will pay attention on that
[09:06:20]<pcambra[m]>I've added recurso in the translations, activo is more like a economic term and it is confusing with the active state. We can always change it
[09:07:22]<pcambra[m]>A tractor is only an activo for accounting terms. and even then is probably a pasivo :)
[09:15:42]<JJARRINF[m]><pcambra[m]> "I've added recurso in the..." <- Okay, it works for me.. anyway, I noticed that you use "añadir" and I use "agregar", I think is better to standardize to the most used in the actual translation.. but "Add Log" can be translated to "Nuevo registro" too.. tell me about your thoughs please
[09:56:18]<pcambra[m]><JJARRINF[m]> "Okay, it works for me.. anyway..." <- Nuevo registro looks good
