| [14:23:51] | <gbathree[m]> | Hey - I'm noticing that when you look up a piece of equipment, there is a 'logs' tab. This (I would expect) should show logs which link to this equipment. However, I'm not seeing any of the logs that are linked. |
| [14:23:52] | <gbathree[m]> | I confirmed in the log that the equipment is indeed linked to it. The log is marked Done (maybe that matters) but wondering if anyone else has had similar problems or has used that 'log' tab inside an equipment asset before. |
| [14:24:13] | <gbathree[m]> | gbathree[m]: here's the log (see equipment link) |
| [14:24:41] | <mstenta[m]> | Relevant forum topic: https://farmos.discourse.group/t/equipment-use-logs/1624 |
| [14:26:02] | <mstenta[m]> | tl;dr: The "Logs" tab shows logs that reference the Equipment in the asset tab, which is a field that is added automatically to all log types. If you enable the Equipment module, then it also adds an equipment reference field to all logs, but that does not get used in the "Logs" tab. |
| [14:26:32] | <mstenta[m]> | (LOTS more information and discussion of next steps in that forum topic...) |
| [14:27:15] | <mstenta[m]> | I'll add this to my 4.x wishlist - because I want to see it done! :-) |
| [14:27:17] | <gbathree[m]> | mstenta[m]: ah I see. Hmmm... yeah that makes sense from a consistency perspective but quite confusing from a usability perspective |
| [14:27:50] | <gbathree[m]> | gbathree[m]: I kind of just always imagine asking 'what logs relate to XXX' when looking at that logs tab |
| [14:29:00] | <mstenta[m]> | gbathree[m]: Agreed. This is what I wrote in the forum topic: |
| [14:29:01] | <mstenta[m]> | > It’s also a question of where would you intuitively look for this information? I would intuitively want to click on the “Big Tractor > Logs” tab… but should that be a mix of both logs that happened TO the tractor and WITH the tractor? Or should they be separate pages? |
| [14:29:30] | <gbathree[m]> | Another one (sorry, not just wishing) is that in an organization view, you get a 'logs' alongside the 'assets' tab. The logs obviously are one level deep (you'd have to check all the assets and compile them), but that is then really powerful as a starting point to ask "what's new in this farm". |

| [14:30:21] | <gbathree[m]> | mstenta[m]: IMO I would start with everything, or just make something that adds visual clarity in the list if it's a TO or WITH somehow. Users will figure out the rest IMO |
| [14:30:33] | <gbathree[m]> | gbathree[m]: but yeah, I'm sure there's more there, just putting in my two cents :) |
| [14:30:45] | <mstenta[m]> | gbathree[m]: Please share that in the forum topic! :-) |
| [14:31:00] | <mstenta[m]> | mstenta[m]: But also please read all of it, we may have already covered it I forget |
| [14:32:50] | <mstenta[m]> | gbathree[m]: Sorry confused... are you saying you're requesting a "Logs" tab on Organizations? The current PR does not add one. |
| [14:36:08] | <gbathree[m]> | mstenta[m]: yeah, again, personally I think that would be helpful. I think there's more work on the UI to be done (which miriam and pedro are investigating) that maybe makes that not necessary... like having a dropdown in the top left to select an organization and then just filter everything to the org. |
| [14:36:08] | <gbathree[m]> | But still, yes it would be nice to see all logs association with an organization here, since this is a nice landing page for each org |
| [14:36:34] | <mstenta[m]> | gbathree[m]: Cool I will note that in the PR |
| [14:51:48] | <gbathree[m]> | <mstenta[m]> "But also please read all of it..." <- did it! |
| [14:53:30] | <gbathree[m]> | Also - Equipment Types! I hadn't seen that before! I love it! For Pasa Octavio Martín Duarte we should be using that for Pasa's taxonomy tillage taxonomy classes |
| [14:53:54] | <mstenta[m]> | Yes! That's new as of 3.4! https://farmos.org/blog/2025/farmOS-3.4/ |
| [14:54:24] | <mstenta[m]> | > we should be using that for Pasa's taxonomy tillage taxonomy classes |
| [14:54:24] | <mstenta[m]> | that's interesting - what are some examples of those? |
| [17:54:29] | <mstenta[m]> | fosten: this one's for you ;-) https://github.com/farmOS/farmOS/pull/959 |
