[11:18:21]<nessy234[m]>Hi please i need help to install farm os online , i tried but i don't understand well how to do in the terminal. thanks
[11:19:04]* mstenta[m] has joined #farmos
[11:19:05]<mstenta[m]>Hi nessy234 - did you use this guide? farmos.org/hosting/install/
[11:20:00]<nessy234[m]>yes but i don't understand the commands
[11:20:36]<nessy234[m]>i have an error and i deleted all what i did
[11:20:54]<mstenta[m]>Which commands?
[11:20:59]<mstenta[m]>And what was the error?
[11:21:15]<mstenta[m]>Do you have experience hosting web applications and/or database servers?
[11:21:49]<nessy234[m]>no i'm novice, i use to do web site on wordpress only lol
[11:22:17]<nessy234[m]>i don't have this error know beacause i had deleted all things
[11:22:22]<mstenta[m]>OK - did you host your own Wordpress code? Or did you use a subscription hosting service?
[11:22:30]<mstenta[m]>Just want to get a sense for your comfort level :-)
[11:22:51]<mstenta[m]>You might also consider Farmier.com - which is a subscription-based farmOS hosting service.
[11:23:19]<mstenta[m]>If you want to host yourself, it will require some basic understanding of web application/database hosting.
[11:23:46]<mstenta[m]>Happy to help through specific issues if you want to go that route! But I probably can't teach you all of the basic that are necessary.
[11:23:59]<nessy234[m]>thanks i have my own host
[11:24:28]<nessy234[m]>yes i want to try to do myself (i'm sorry for my english, i'm french hh)
[11:24:42]<mstenta[m]>OK great! Have you ever used PHP Composer?
[11:24:45]<mstenta[m]>Or Docker?
[11:25:03]<nessy234[m]>i thought that you only have to pu commands on the terminal hh
[11:25:09]<nessy234[m]>no never
[11:25:20]<nessy234[m]>mstenta[m]: never
[11:26:54]<mstenta[m]>OK. You might be most comfortable with the "packaged release" installation method then. Do you have all of the server requirements? Apache, PHP, PostgreSQL/MySQL/MariaDB etc?
[11:27:22]<mstenta[m]>The "packaged release" method just involves downloading a tarball and unpacking it into your server filesystem
[11:27:37]<mstenta[m]>https://farmos.org/hosting/install/#packaged-releases
[11:27:56]<mstenta[m]>It's also important to understand the update process too, so that you can update to new version of farmOS when they are released
[11:28:02]<mstenta[m]>https://farmos.org/hosting/update/
[11:28:30]<mstenta[m]>And very important to have a backup strategy, which creates snapshots of the database and your code/files before each update (and on a regular basis).
[11:28:50]<mstenta[m]>There are lots of ways to do this, so we don't have detailed guides for that.
[11:29:04]<mstenta[m]>You need to know how to manage a database
[11:30:45]<nessy234[m]>ok thank you very much, i'm going to read all these
[11:31:10]<mstenta[m]>Ok good luck! Happy to answer specific questions :-)
[11:32:03]<nessy234[m]>thank you very much i'll try this way et we'll see
[11:32:07]<nessy234[m]>thank you so much
[16:42:30]<nessy234[m]>hi, I have a question please. Do I need to create a website first or can i put the package on a empty domain folder ? Thank you
