[05:22:17]* farmBOT has joined #farmos
[15:02:49]<mstenta[m]>Some feedback from OpenTEAM fellows on farmOS: https://gitlab.com/OpenTEAMAg/feedback/support_requests/-/issues/97
[15:03:26]<mstenta[m]>This one stood out to me:
[15:03:26]<mstenta[m]>> I feel a bit intimidated to join the existing FarmOS instance meetups. I wonder if we can create a "Beginners" group of farmers who meet to discuss FarmOS and maybe volunteer experienced farmers in FarmOS would want to offer some mentorship for getting new farms onboarded.
[15:04:06]<mstenta[m]>Wish they didn't feel intimidated by us! 😅 But also a beginners group is a great idea!
[15:04:25]<symbioquine[m]>> maybe volunteer experienced farmers in FarmOS would want to offer some mentorship for getting new farms onboarded.
[15:04:25]<symbioquine[m]>This is what I've been wanting to do with a local "farmOS users group"!
[15:05:16]<symbioquine[m]>Maybe we should figure out a standard set of materials to make setting up such groups easier...
[15:06:12]<symbioquine[m]>I guess maybe there's not enough widespread farmOS adoption for the groups to always be local ones though.
[15:06:29]<symbioquine[m]>We could start with a virtual one :)
[15:07:28]<mstenta[m]>👍👍👍
[15:10:34]<FarmerEd[m]>You really should be more approachable Mike 🤠
[15:30:56]<FarmerEd[m]>I can see what they mean though, this is the least intimidating group of people ever, but for the uninitiated the level of technical conversation could definitely be somewhat intimidating.
[15:31:16]<FarmerEd[m]>A beginners group is a great idea.

[15:43:44]<paul121[m]>Any idea if we can re-arrange the forum categories? Do others see the same here? "Using farmOS" should probably be closer to the top, if not first ... :-)
[15:44:41]<paul121[m]>ohh maybe they are ordered according to newest posts. a new Jobs Board post came in so it is on top. I dunno if that is always best :-)

[15:47:21]<FarmerEd[m]>paul121[m]: I guess the using farmOS section has been quiet lately?
[15:47:47]<symbioquine[m]>paul121[m]: Yeah, I don't see any settings like that. Maybe I don't have sufficient permissions though...
[15:49:51]<FarmerEd[m]>Perhaps the using farmOS could have sub categories too?
[15:50:31]<paul121[m]>It might be this "desktop category page style" (I think we are referring to the "categories page")

[15:51:37]<paul121[m]>aha
[15:52:44]<paul121[m]>FarmerEd[m]: it does say "subcategories" there... not sure what that looks like though!
[15:53:07]<symbioquine[m]>I really should try creating a local Discourse instance to play with...
[16:00:10]<paul121[m]><paul121[m]> "Screenshot from 2023-02-14 12-51..." <- well, before I forget this is in the "Basic setup" page.. I think fixed categories w/ latest topics would be an improvement
[16:02:38]<paul121[m]>there is also a new sidebar thingy that came out. We are now in "legacy" mode but could switch (I think it is site-wide): https://meta.discourse.org/t/try-out-the-new-sidebar-and-notification-me...
[16:04:10]<paul121[m]>I think you can see this new sidebar in-action if you follow that link. Kinda cool - categories & tags always available on the left side
[16:04:15]<paul121[m]>* left side (with toggle)
[16:10:10]<paul121[m]>There's also a new Discourse Chat feature.... (for better or worse??)
[16:10:10]<paul121[m]>> Create channels for community members to chat more informally and build relationships. When things come up that belong in a more discoverable place, chat messages can be quoted in topics where the discussion can continue over time.
[16:10:42]<paul121[m]>Maybe that is a friendlier place for a "beginner" user chat?
[16:15:12]<paul121[m]>Not that I want another chat but this... :P
[16:15:12]<paul121[m]>> Discourse made richer and more detailed conversations easier to have than on Slack, so if you want the conversation forgotten, put it on Slack. If it matters, put it on Discourse.
[16:15:25]<paul121[m]>* another chat... but
