[06:15:56]<komatek[m]>Hi mstenta , just played with http://www.heatmapper.ca/geocoordinate/
[06:16:10]<komatek[m]>si there feature requests for this kind of feature ?
[06:16:28]<komatek[m]>ACTION uploaded an image: image.png (531KB) < https://matrix.org/_matrix/media/r0/download/matrix.org/lAiWZAJqHVyqvwee... >
[06:16:54]<komatek[m]>the heat map feature for sensors value should be a must have ;-)
[06:17:19]<komatek[m]>and the ability to slide a timeline will be really amaizing
[06:39:34]<komatek[m]>is there some project about storing sensors data in a timeseries DB like InfluxDB ?
[06:44:23]<komatek[m]>Is there also some projects about MQTT to retrieve sensor data ?

[07:30:23]<mstenta[m]>komatek: oooh cool
[07:31:23]<mstenta[m]>Openlayers can do heat maps
[07:31:26]<mstenta[m]>https://openlayers.org/en/latest/examples/heatmap-earthquakes.html
[07:32:17]<mstenta[m]>Here's a timeline slider feature request:
[07:32:19]<mstenta[m]>https://github.com/farmOS/farmOS-map/issues/53
[07:32:36]<mstenta[m]>Although that was specifically for visualizing the movement of assets
[07:32:58]<mstenta[m]>But it would be great to do it in a general way so that it could also be used for something like this!
[07:34:35]<mstenta[m]>Re: Time series db and MQTT there are some discussions on the forum
[07:34:47]<komatek[m]>yes exactly
[07:35:06]<komatek[m]>and concerning MQTT ? and also influxDB ?
[07:35:23]<mstenta[m]>So yes! There have been some related thoughts... But it would be cool to organize them into an actual feature request for something like this specifically!
[07:36:16]<komatek[m]>ok I can do some feature requests, where do you want them ?
[07:51:37]<komatek[m]>sorry for all these questions, I'm really enthsiast about farmOS
[08:00:30]<mstenta[m]>Haha
[08:01:00]<mstenta[m]>https://github.com/farmOS/farmOS/issues
[08:01:38]<komatek[m]> * sorry for all these questions, I'm really enthusiastic about farmOS
[08:02:03]<mstenta[m]>No promises that they will be done anytime soon! Lots of stuff on the list right now, but the first step is a feature request! And maybe someone will have time and interest to pick it up!
[08:02:38]<mstenta[m]>(the open source project disclaimer haha)
[08:03:22]<komatek[m]>oh ok we can pull feature requests on the issue part of github
[08:04:09]<komatek[m]><mstenta[m] "(the open source project disclai"> Yes I know :-)
[08:04:21]<komatek[m]>I'll try to help as far as I can
[08:18:26]<mstenta[m]>Thumbs up!
[08:19:26]<komatek[m]>and concerning the sensors data it's almost only through json right ?
[08:21:42]<mstenta[m]>The sensor module that comes with farmOS includes the "listener" sensor type, which listens for sensor data posted to its endpoints as JSON and saves that to the SQL db
[08:22:07]<mstenta[m]>But: it's possible for modules to define their own sensor type which works however they want
[08:22:36]<mstenta[m]>There's some more detailed info in the forum about this by me
[08:23:01]<mstenta[m]>I'll try to find the link when I'm at my computer, but if you search you might find it
[08:37:11]<komatek[m]>great I'll check that !
[08:37:18]<komatek[m]>Thanks alot

[16:16:51]<idoshmida[m]>Hello, any idea how to collect data for pest monitoring? I dont want to use observation log. I want to categorize all kined of pest and monitor my plantings with these categories.
[16:17:58]<mstenta[m]>idoshmida: the recommended approach is to use Observation logs and tag it with a specific Log Category
[16:18:36]<mstenta[m]>You can add your own log categories at `/admin/structure/taxonomy/farm_log_categories`
[16:18:55]<mstenta[m]>Then, you'll be able to filter down to only see those logs in the list in the future
[16:19:24]<idoshmida[m]>I start to collect data with animal asset. Is this a good solution?
[16:19:57]<idoshmida[m]>I tried to create a new log type but it looks like it doesnt work...
[16:20:03]<mstenta[m]>Animal assets are for managing your own animals - I'm not sure it would make sense to use that for pest monitoring
[16:20:25]<mstenta[m]>Creating new log types is not very simple... it requires creating a module
[16:20:48]<mstenta[m]>And in general I recommend using the existing log types and refining them with categories - less code to maintain
[16:25:20]<idoshmida[m]>I understand. I need to create a taxonomy for all my pests and collect data about them. How can i do this with observation log? The category here will not do the job because i have about 50 kindes of pest and each act different on each plant.
[16:25:59]<mstenta[m]>Ok - so then what I would suggest is:
[16:26:11]<mstenta[m]>1. Create a general "Pest Monitoring" log category (or whatever you would like to call it)
[16:26:40]<mstenta[m]>2. In each observation, use the Quantity Measurement to count them, and use the Quantity Label to record the pest type
[16:27:25]<mstenta[m]>Then you can filter down by that category+label with the Quantity Report (/farm/report/quantity)
[16:27:54]<mstenta[m]>And if you want to make the data entry easier... you can create a custom quick form, with a dropdown of all the different pests you want to monitor
[16:28:05]<mstenta[m]>(that requires some programming though)
[16:28:21]<mstenta[m]>(but there are some good examples you can look at for reference...)
[16:29:28]<mstenta[m]>Do you think that would work?
[16:31:19]<idoshmida[m]>That is a good idea. Why shoudnt i use pests ass assets that i need to kill ?
[16:37:20]<idoshmida[m]>allso i have grafted plants. i need to record both crop/veriety of both (root type and shoot type) its important for future filtering. should i create planting log with 2 crop/veriety? any better ideas?
[16:37:53]<idoshmida[m]>*transplanting log
[16:39:05]<mstenta[m]>> Why shoudnt i use pests ass assets that i need to kill ?
[16:39:05]<mstenta[m]>I suppose you could! Some people are actually using Planting assets to track weeds, which is similar. So you could think of it as a central pest asset that you can use to reference from related logs
[16:39:33]<mstenta[m]>Assets are essentially just a way to organize logs
[16:39:38]<mstenta[m]>So perhaps that would work for you
[16:40:06]<mstenta[m]>Ah interesting question re: grafted plant crop/variety
[16:40:34]<mstenta[m]>If I remember correctly, Planting assets can have multiple Crop/varieties
[16:41:09]<mstenta[m]>But it is referenced on the Planting (asset), not on the Transplanting (log)
[16:42:03]<idoshmida[m]><mstenta[m] "So perhaps that would work for y"> i will try both ways to see what is better. thanks a lot.
[16:42:37]<mstenta[m]>Sure thing! If you want to share your experience on the forum, perhaps someone else can benefit from it too
[16:43:09]<idoshmida[m]>ill be happy to do
[16:43:33]<mstenta[m]>here is the post about weed management: Why shoudnt i use pests ass assets that i need to kill ?
[16:43:41]<mstenta[m]>oops, copy paste fail :-)
[16:43:53]<mstenta[m]> * here is the post about weed management:
[16:44:01]<mstenta[m]>https://farmos.discourse.group/t/development-of-a-weed-management-farmos...
[16:45:51]<idoshmida[m]><mstenta[m] "But it is referenced on the Plan"> that will be a problem? the crop/veraiety is always atached to the asset and not to the logs. i dont understand why?
[16:52:18]* ringo[m]1 has joined #farmos
[17:10:37]<mstenta[m]>it was just an early design decision to do it that way
[17:11:02]<mstenta[m]>but since then there have been a few use cases proposed that would benefit from actually having that on the log level instead
[17:11:09]<mstenta[m]>so perhaps we can move to that, but it would require some thought
[17:11:40]<mstenta[m]>let's start a github issue for it! and list the use-cases/reasoning for it
[17:14:03]<idoshmida[m]>grate. ill love to help. about pest managing: i allso need to record spraying and IPM (Biologically based Integrated Pest Management). i want these logs to be attached to my pests for monitoring and not only for the planting. any ideas?
[17:42:40]<mstenta[m]>ah ok - so that might be a reason to have pest assets ;-)
[17:58:51]<idoshmida[m]>ok grate thanks again!
[18:01:36]<mstenta[m]>idoshmida: i made an issue to think this through...
[18:01:38]<mstenta[m]>https://github.com/farmOS/farmOS/issues/245
[18:02:52]<mstenta[m]>It is not a small change, however, and would require thinking through all the considerations around migrating old data, so I can't guarantee it will happen soon.... but good to have an issue there so that we think about it
