[05:17:16]<calbasi_matrix>Hi, I'm newbie here! I wonder if a drupal instance could be used for differents farmers or they need have use different drupal instances!
[05:18:00]<calbasi_matrix>I wonder too if FarmOS has localization and internationalization capabilities
[07:02:50]* JustTB has joined #farmos
[07:14:43]<mstenta[m]>Hi @calbasi
[07:14:52]<calbasi_matrix>Hi
[07:14:52]<farmBOT>hola
[07:15:12]<mstenta[m]>You probably want to use multiple farmOS instances
[07:15:18]<mstenta[m]>One per farm
[07:15:58]<mstenta[m]>Some people are using one instance for multiple farms, but currently there is no way of keeping records separate within an instance
[07:16:13]<mstenta[m]>That's something we've talked about adding support for in the future though
[07:16:33]<mstenta[m]>As for translation and localization, yes Drupal has support for that
[07:17:01]<calbasi_matrix>Ok about 1 site per farm...
[07:17:20]<mstenta[m]>However translations haven't been provided in most languages yet
[07:17:37]<mstenta[m]>There is a thread on GitHub that has some info
[07:18:21]<calbasi_matrix>About translations, I've read in your FAQ that is possible contribute with l10n. I don't work with drupal distros before, then I wonder if it user l10n.d.o system...
[07:19:14]<calbasi_matrix>I mean if farmOS USES drupal modules localization system/server.
[07:19:36]<mstenta[m]>https://github.com/farmOS/farmOS/issues/177
[07:19:49]<calbasi_matrix>Going :-)
[07:20:25]<mstenta[m]>I don't have experience with Drupal localization either, but I know it's possible
[07:22:32]<calbasi_matrix>OK, I could read about it. Don't worry. I have lots of experience in translations, because I'm Catalan and we speak Spanish too :-) But I have not experience with drupal distributions
[07:23:26]<calbasi_matrix>By the way, a last question, is d8 version scheduled?
[07:24:27]<mstenta[m]>Great!! We'd love your help!!
[07:24:39]<mstenta[m]><calbasi_matrix "By the way, a last question, is "> Yes! I'm very eager to upgrade
[07:24:47]<mstenta[m]>I'm not sure when though
[07:25:28]<calbasi_matrix>And is d8 version, usable, for beta testing?
[07:25:38]<calbasi_matrix>I don't see many activity on issue queue and I gess it's not very "active"
[07:39:18]<mstenta[m]>Nope not yet
[07:39:46]<mstenta[m]>Still a lot of basic architecture to build for it
[07:40:16]<mstenta[m]>The jump from D7 to D8 has some changes that require refactoring
[07:40:57]<mstenta[m]>Moving forward, Drupal has adopted a better backwards comparability policy, so D8 to D9+ will be much much easier
[07:41:53]<calbasi_matrix>Ok, thank you very much for your time!
[07:44:15]<mstenta[m]>Sure thing!
[07:44:40]<mstenta[m]>Oh also we have a new forum: https://farmOS.discourse.group
[07:45:06]<mstenta[m]>Maybe we can try to get some conversations going there about translation/localization
[07:45:27]<mstenta[m]>Excited to have you involved @calbasi !
[07:46:50]<calbasi_matrix>I'd like to help you with it, for sure. You can meet me here, at riot, or using my drupal account: https://www.drupal.org/u/calbasi
[07:59:28]<mstenta[m]>calbasi: great thanks! looks like you've been in the Drupal community for a long time!
[07:59:42]<mstenta[m]>I misunderstood when you said you didn't know Drupal distributions - I thought you meant you didn't know Drupal :-)
[08:01:08]<mstenta[m]>so yes: distributions work identically to modules with regard to translations
[08:01:19]<mstenta[m]>we use the t() function everywhere in the farmOS modules
[08:02:00]<mstenta[m]>and you can see farmOS on localize.drupal.org here: https://localize.drupal.org/translate/projects/farm
[08:02:07]<calbasi_matrix>Nice, then localization should be trivial ;-)
[08:02:37]<mstenta[m]>Great! Yea I think it's just a matter of enabling some modules, right?
[08:02:42]<mstenta[m]>locale?
[08:02:44]<mstenta[m]>(and writing translations, of course)
[08:03:10]<mstenta[m]>It would be great to have some of that process documented on farmOS.org
[08:03:14]<mstenta[m]>That's what this issue is for: https://github.com/farmOS/farmOS.org/issues/18
[08:03:46]<calbasi_matrix>Once translated the strings, any user can just enable localization module and, in d7, i gess, update_localization contrib module...
[08:05:07]<calbasi_matrix>I could document this... Now I'm just looking for a farmer to build a first site for free, just to have a reason to work on it and later tallk about your distro to other farmers here in Catalonia :-p
[08:05:43]<mstenta[m]>Great!
[08:05:55]<mstenta[m]>Maybe reach out to some of the people in that Github issue - perhaps they would be interested
[08:07:08]<calbasi_matrix>Goog suggestion. I'll do it!
[08:08:12]<mstenta[m]>Out of curiousity, do you have experience developing Drupal modules?
[09:53:06]<calbasi_matrix>I'm not a coder... I'm front end and, mainly, a site builder. I'm interested in learning backend stuff, and the best way is to have something to do :-p (when my payed work, my children, etc. let me some time).
[09:53:07]<calbasi_matrix>Then, I don't really have much experience developing modules, just patching from time to time...
[09:54:47]<calbasi_matrix>But I like a lot your project (I'm biologist and farming was one of my loves). So, I could be enroled to any exciting task :-D ;-)
[09:54:47]<calbasi_matrix>For example, I think it could be interesting work on d8 version :-)
[10:55:39]<calbasi_matrix>mstenta: I've found a Catalan farmer to build a pilot site (free of cost for him :-p ). I'll take profit of this to translate to the Catalan the software and document it. See you!
[13:14:22]<mstenta[m]>Great!!
[13:14:41]<mstenta[m]>If you have any thoughts or suggestions for changing some of the wording of things in farmOS let me know
[13:15:04]<mstenta[m]>As you get into reading and translating strings
[14:59:00]<calbasi_matrix>Perfect!
