[05:51:33]<alexadamsmith>Hi mstenta - just wanted to touch base about the farmOS native app! I agree, it would be great to do a google hangout sometime fairly soon and talk about how to move forward with the app. For the few weeks my app time will be dedicated to finishing some updates to BeetClock. Would you like to set up a meeting in about three weeks? Weekends are generally
[05:51:33]<alexadamsmith>good for me, as well as Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Looking forward to it!!

[08:01:22]<mstenta>Hi alexadamsmith, yea a couple of weeks from now would be great! I will have more time then as well.

[12:51:41]<Ry>anyone up? I have 2 quick support questions for a Freebsd server/mariadb/php56 issues
[12:51:58]<Ry>with regards to FarmOS direct install into apache24
[12:53:30]* Ry is now known as Rye
[12:54:44]<mstenta>hi Rye
[12:55:00]<mstenta>what issues are you having?
[12:55:12]<Rye>javascript api states that google maps API is retired
[12:55:43]<Rye>I have loaded the key in settings, ensured my useraccount has permissions, and enabled the api through google
[12:56:12]<mstenta>ok... are you sure you added the key in the right place in farmOS?
[12:56:26]<mstenta>it's a little confusing because there's also an api key field for the Geocoder module... but that's different
[12:56:32]<mstenta>there are specific instructions here: https://www.drupal.org/node/2768895
[12:56:35]<Rye>then that's it
[12:56:39]<Rye>I'll read it again
[12:56:41]<Rye>thanks
[12:56:44]<mstenta>(it's something we need to address for the next version)
[12:56:51]<mstenta>sure good luck! let me know if you have other questions1
[12:56:58]<Rye>I might be interested in helping once I figure out drupal
[12:57:17]<Rye>I'm a php, mysql, ajax, css, xhtml type tho....
[13:08:52]<Rye>Thanks for the clarification. I would strongly suggest linking those fields to a site config option in the future. Secondly from an HCI concept, the submenus are not user friendly and confusing.
[13:12:15]<mstenta>Rye: great! we'd love the help!
[13:12:34]<mstenta>yea, i'm thinking about making the API key part of the farmOS installation/configuration
[13:12:39]<mstenta>so you don't have to go through all those steps
[13:13:22]<mstenta>re: menus - thanks for the feedback - what do you find confusing? always looking for ways to make it more obvious
[13:13:51]<mstenta>(with farmOS a lot of the UX is a balance between flexibility and usability, because it can be extended by modules)
[13:14:29]<mstenta>so it can be a challenge to make things obvious
[13:14:52]<mstenta>but it would help to hear what your initial assumptions/interpretations were when you looked at them (without knowing any of the other stuff about them)
[13:26:14]<Rye>as an example, finding the options tab for the api key was difficult due to sub-menu org. However part of it could be drupal as I look at it more it seems lke Wordpress org. But I will be sure to give feedback and such as I begin using it on my intranet. I will be a new farmer, however I am looking at using technology for record keeping and good land management practices. Data is priceless in
[13:26:14]<Rye>today's age. I am looking forward to seeing this project grow. I do have one more question. Is there already in the works or a plan to incorporate RFID or z-wave sensor management for weather, soil conditions, livestock movement for geofencing or anything like that? I know some of these technologies are in use for paid subscriptions. Just wandering where this is heading currently.
[13:30:13]<mstenta>Rye: ooh i thought you meant the "Areas / Assets / Log" menu...
[13:30:35]<mstenta>yea... the other stuff (in /admin) can be very intimidating... i try to hide as much of that from farmOS users as possible
[13:30:40]<mstenta>it isn't necessary for normal farmOS usage
[13:30:46]<mstenta>it's all the underlying Drupal stuff
[13:31:55]<mstenta>Rye: there's a sensor module in farmOS which can be used to stream data into the database from DIY sensors like raspberry pis
[13:32:29]<mstenta>and yea there's been talk and brainstorming about RFID tag reading for livestock management - a guy named Bruce is working on that in New Hampshire
[13:32:35]<mstenta>part of the Farm Hack community
[13:32:38]<mstenta>farmhack.org
[13:33:00]<mstenta>and i'd like to add a weather module to farmOS for pulling in data from official sources as well
[14:01:03]<Rye>thanks. I'll be sure to check it out.
