[21:23:57]<lazerorca>hello there
[21:29:41]<lazerorca>can you explain what the "weight" value means under relations when it comes to adding a child area? Is "0" like top level and "1" is the level below and so on and so forth?
[21:30:17]<mstenta>lazerorca: that's what controls the order in which the areas are sorted
[21:30:59]<mstenta>there's an easier way to do that, though, with drag and drop at /admin/structure/taxonomy/farm_areas?destination=farm/areas
[21:31:12]<lazerorca>so 0 means the top of the menu, 1 means second on the menu etc etc
[21:31:14]<lazerorca>ahhh ok cool
[21:31:28]<mstenta>in general, i don't use the "relations" fields very often... it's easier to use the drag and drop UI
[21:31:40]<lazerorca>ok cool
[21:31:43]<mstenta>that's something that comes out-of-the-box in Drupal taxonomy terms
[21:31:56]<lazerorca>nice
[21:32:06]<mstenta>but yea in the background, "weight" is used for the ordering
[21:32:15]<mstenta>so something with a heavier weight will sink to the bottom
[21:32:18]<lazerorca>can you duplicate areas?
[21:32:54]<mstenta>there isn't a shortcut for cloning areas, no... but wouldn't be too hard of a feature to add probably...
[21:34:24]<lazerorca>So do you do any growing?
[21:38:30]<lazerorca>So let's say I want to add another Area attribute like "Mini-Bed"... is that possible?
[21:40:49]<lazerorca>through the interface
[21:42:14]<lazerorca>I see that you can add asset types

[22:54:00]<lazerorca>Would the best way to handle direct sowing be to categorize it as a "planting" and not a "seeding"? I know I ask this already... I'm trying to figure out the sort of flow of things... Seeding (if you are using a greenhouse) to planting (which I'm assuming is a movement from the greenhouse) to harvest?
[22:54:33]<lazerorca>if you are direct seeding just go straight to "planting"

[08:32:02]<mstenta>lazerorca: morning
[08:32:07]<mstenta>sorry i missed your messages last night
[08:33:21]<mstenta>what do you mean by "Area attribute"?
[08:34:40]<mstenta>as for adding assets - yup you can create new asset types through the UI... but there's a bunch of other glue code required if you want to make them show up with the rest of the asset types in farmOS - this is typically done in a new module
[08:34:59]<mstenta>if you have a new asset type in mind, you can suggest it as a feature request!
[08:35:22]<mstenta>regarding seeding vs planting...
[08:35:36]<mstenta>the best way to think about it is: "planting" is a noun, and "seeding" is a verb
[08:36:03]<mstenta>you always start with a planting, which represents a set of actual plants that you are growing, or are going to grow
[08:36:17]<mstenta>then, you can create a "seeding" log associated with that plantings
[08:36:31]<mstenta>the seeding log is what says "i seeding THIS MUCH on THIS DATE"
[08:37:09]<mstenta>so by itself, a planting has no concept of "time" or "place" or "quantity" - you use logs (like "seeding", "transplanting", and "movement") attached to the planting record to add that information
[08:37:35]<mstenta>logs always have a date - so anything that happens at a specific point in time is recorded with a log
[09:05:27]<mstenta>lazerorca: hope that all makes sense! i'll be on and off today so feel free to ask more questions...
[10:19:38]<lazerorca>it does. I think I have figured it out
[10:20:11]<lazerorca>thank you soooo much for your help. I did my first "observation" last night :-)
[10:20:26]<lazerorca>I'm hoping tomorrow night to do more in getting everything set up

[10:25:10]<lazerorca>I'll be out most of the day doing some produce processing. I was going to leave a question before I go. Is there anyway I can change the homepage? I know you can do this in wordpress
[10:26:31]<lazerorca>If possible I'd like the homepage to point to direct to /farm/assets/plantings
[11:41:10]<mstenta>lazerorca: yea! go to /admin/config/system/site-information
[11:41:17]<mstenta>you need to be logged in as user 1
[12:15:01]<lazerorca>I feel really stupid now... I can't find where to log in at
[12:15:12]<lazerorca>admin
[12:15:13]<lazerorca>?
[12:54:00]<mstenta>lazerorca: /user
[12:54:17]<mstenta>don't feel stupid... it's sort of hidden :-/
[12:55:26]<mstenta>on farmier-hosted sites i also include the logintoboggan module, which automatically shows the login form on any "access denied" page to make things easier... but that's not included with farmOS by default (to keep dependencies minimal)
