[09:09:05]<Arcadiapps>Hello
[09:09:05]<farmBOT>what's up
[09:15:34]<Arcadiapps>I would like to make a contribution for this project by translating it to basque as I think I can get founds for this project to the Basque Country I+D+i program, sorry if my english is not too clear :-)
[09:15:59]<mstenta>Hi Arcadiapps
[09:16:11]<mstenta>Thanks for offering a translation!
[09:16:15]<Arcadiapps>Hi mstenta
[09:16:27]<mstenta>Have you ever worked with translations in Drupal before?
[09:16:53]<Arcadiapps>no, but I think it should not be very difficult
[09:17:16]<Arcadiapps>Sure there is a tutorial somewhere :-)
[09:17:42]<Arcadiapps>I forked the project in github, is that a good start?
[09:17:55]<mstenta>Arcadiapps: yes, it is possible... but let me give you a quick summary of my thoughts on the farmOS translations...
[09:18:02]<Arcadiapps>ok
[09:18:05]<Arcadiapps>I listen
[09:18:15]<mstenta>right now farmOS is built on Drupal 7, which has modules available to add translations
[09:18:31]<mstenta>and currently, farmOS is made from a bunch of separate modules
[09:18:41]<mstenta>so you would need to add translations for each module, which is a bit of a pain
[09:18:45]<mstenta>however...
[09:19:00]<mstenta>in Drupal 8, translation modules are included in Drupal core, and are much more robust
[09:19:12]<mstenta>i am going to start upgrading farmOS to Drupal 8 soon
[09:19:15]<Arcadiapps>mmhh I see
[09:19:34]<mstenta>and when I do, I think I am going to merge most of the separate modules into one
[09:19:38]<mstenta>which will make things easier
[09:19:39]<mstenta>so...
[09:20:12]<mstenta>i am encouraging anyone who wants to translate farmOS now to go ahead! but also know that i want to start a more organized translation initiative once we are on Drupal 8
[09:21:08]<mstenta>here is an issue on Github for the farmOS.org repository that goes into some more detail: https://github.com/farmOS/farmOS.org/issues/18
[09:21:36]<mstenta>i am making a list of people who have expressed interest in contributing translations - i would love to add you to the list if you are interested
[09:22:06]<mstenta>when i get farmOS onto Drupal 8 I will contact everyone and get the official translation initiative started
[09:22:24]<Arcadiapps>Ok, I´ll check. I have one working farmOS instance in baserri.arcadiapps.es now and I have a couple of permaculture and hydroponics startups interested in start using it
[09:22:32]<mstenta>awesome!
[09:22:54]<mstenta>the github issue i linked to above has some information about how translations work in Drupal 7, and how to start using them
[09:23:07]<mstenta>please feel free to get started on it!
[09:23:25]<mstenta>i haven't worked with it much myself, so i might not be very helpful - but i would love to learn from your experience as well
[09:23:53]<mstenta>and any translations you provide now (even though it might be more tedious) will be automatically used in the Drupal 8 version, I believe
[09:24:08]<Arcadiapps>Yes please add me to the list with this email: aupa@baserri.arcadiapps.es
[09:24:12]<mstenta>(assuming that none of the strings themselves change)
[09:24:20]<mstenta>ok i will! thanks Arcadiapps!
[09:25:40]<mstenta>i'm very excited to get onto Drupal 8 for many reasons - translations are a big one
[09:26:38]<mstenta>my wife and i had our fist baby in October, so things have slowed down a bit... but i'm eager to continue working on it!
[09:26:43]<Arcadiapps>Ok I will try to start translation with drupal 7 as this two startups are very interested in having it in basque
[09:26:56]<mstenta>great! i don't think it will be too hard
[09:27:52]<mstenta>from what i understand... translations are stored on https://localize.drupal.org/ - and there are modules that allow you to pull those into farmOS
[09:28:04]<mstenta>and another module that allows you to contribute new translations from directly within farmOS
[09:28:16]<mstenta>that is my understanding anyway, but i haven't done it myself yet
[09:28:26]<Arcadiapps>Oh congratulations I have twins and I can tell you that having childrens is the best project you can have in your life :-)
[09:28:44]<mstenta>Thanks! Yes I agree - it is a whole new world!
[09:28:55]<mstenta>Everyone told me that my work would slow down when he was born - they were right!
[09:29:09]<mstenta>It has been a very exhausting couple of months!
[09:29:23]<mstenta>But I am very happy. :-)
[09:29:38]<Arcadiapps>Of course do not worry about that it will be better in the future take care of your family now
[09:29:57]<mstenta>That's good :-)
[09:32:06]<Arcadiapps>Mines are 11 years old and one of them love to programming with Scratch, now everithing is less physical but more intelectual work (giving them education and culture :-) )
[09:35:56]<mstenta>Cool! I've heard of Scratch!
[09:36:06]<mstenta>I can't wait to start teaching him ALL the things!
[09:36:24]<mstenta>A fun and interesting world awaits his developing brain. :-)
[09:36:50]<mstenta>Right now he is just starting to learn how to grab onto objects.
[09:58:23]<Arcadiapps>You are going to enjoy the ride of being dad, just let me tell you one thing: They learn by imitation and do what they see we do not what we tell them what is good to do. :-)
[10:02:35]<Arcadiapps>Bye I will let you know whatever progress I have with this, take care :-)
[10:02:53]<mstenta>That's good advice.
[10:03:00]<mstenta>Thanks Arcadiapps! Talk to you soon!
