[13:27:47]<andygraybeal>thanks man
[13:27:50]<mstenta>awesome thanks!
[13:27:59]<mstenta>look out for an email later today ;-)
[13:28:18]<andygraybeal>come to MEN in april or sept!!!
[13:28:33]<andygraybeal>i'll be there we can hang out and shit
[13:28:46]<andygraybeal>i'll be sharpening tools and shit
[13:28:56]<andygraybeal>i'd love to see some live data in the software
[13:29:41]<andygraybeal>i bet you'd be a hit at MEN and get a lot of new accounts
[13:29:44]<mstenta>that would be cool
[13:30:05]<andygraybeal>you come up with a price structure yet?
[13:30:05]<mstenta>i need to get my act together... haha
[13:30:12]<mstenta>not much of a salesman
[13:30:23]<andygraybeal>naw.. just be a dev. the sales will happen
[13:30:47]<mstenta>actually, lately i've been giving some thought to seeing if i can get sponsors, and give farmOS away for free
[13:30:47]<andygraybeal>i'm selling tools man... farmos is a tool as far as i'm concerned... maybe i could push it at our booth!!!
[13:31:23]<andygraybeal>give me some swag and i'll push it
[13:31:26]<mstenta>haha
[13:31:32]<mstenta>i should get some swag
[13:31:43]<mstenta>what would make good farmOS swag?
[13:31:50]<mstenta>magnets?
[13:31:53]<andygraybeal>hahaha
[13:31:54]<mstenta>beer koozie?
[13:31:55]<mstenta>haha
[13:31:59]<andygraybeal>seed packets
[13:32:04]<mstenta>oooh good idea
[13:32:06]<andygraybeal>hook up with fedco
[13:32:20]<andygraybeal>fedco is one of my accounts
[13:32:28]<andygraybeal>i also order seed from them
[13:32:40]<mstenta>awesome
[13:32:44]<andygraybeal>bro.. give me a tablet with live data on it and i will demo it
[13:32:44]<mstenta>that's a really good idea
[13:32:51]<mstenta>haha
[13:33:14]<mstenta>how about we set you up with a site and you can plug some data in?
[13:33:30]<andygraybeal>that's fine but i set it up and i suck at it man
[13:33:42]<mstenta>suck at what?
[13:34:03]<andygraybeal>i can't remember where i left off
[13:34:18]<andygraybeal>i will start it back up this weekend with questions... it was during your irc hiatus
[13:34:41]<mstenta>alright, well i'd be happy to host one for you, just let me know
[13:34:50]<andygraybeal>between the kid, johnson grass rhizome harvesting, and this tool wholesale and my lady.. ihaven't had much time
[13:35:09]<andygraybeal>now, it's cool - it runs great on ubuntu 14.04 -- i couldnt get it to run on 12.04
[13:35:26]<andygraybeal>it's got it's own linode and everything
[13:35:33]<mstenta>wow fancy! :-)
[13:35:55]<andygraybeal>cut throat!~
[13:36:07]<andygraybeal>i don't have a tablet
[13:36:14]<andygraybeal>i need a tablet to demo
[13:36:22]<andygraybeal>or a bit touch screen
[13:36:24]<andygraybeal>big
[13:37:03]<mstenta>yea i need a tablet
[13:37:07]<mstenta>it's about time
[13:37:21]<andygraybeal>i opted to using cropplanner again, i told you already
[13:37:24]<mstenta>i live at the bleeding edge of software, but in the stoneage for hardware
[13:37:32]<andygraybeal>yea.. i can't afford hardware
[13:37:48]<mstenta>my cell phone screen is completely shattered
[13:37:56]<andygraybeal>i dun even have one to shatter!!!
[13:37:56]<mstenta>i just put some packing tape across it and it still works :-)
[13:38:00]<andygraybeal>nice
[13:39:25]<andygraybeal>what is possible to demo with it as it is or by sept?
[13:39:51]<andygraybeal>i know you got big plans for it, but it doen't have crop planning yet
[13:40:01]<andygraybeal>what is solid in it?
[13:40:15]<mstenta>it has SOME crop planning, but yea not nearly enough
[13:40:27]<mstenta>i use it daily for tracking egg collection from my chickens
[13:40:31]<mstenta>and all the chickens have records
[13:40:44]<mstenta>i can create observation logs when somethign happens, and attach pictures from my phone
[13:41:08]<mstenta>a chicken got attacked by a falcon the other day, so i recorded that, and recorded the movement from the flock to a little quarantine box while she healed
[13:41:20]<mstenta>movement, observations, and activities are all working log types
[13:41:21]<andygraybeal>nice
[13:41:42]<andygraybeal>have you looked at cropplanner yet?
[13:41:51]<andygraybeal>that stuff is great... but not scaleable!!!
[13:42:07]<andygraybeal>it's like.. desktop based / one user oriented.
[13:42:24]<andygraybeal>which means it's practically not usable
[13:42:34]<mstenta>asset types include: Plantings, Animals, Equipment
[13:42:41]<mstenta>Equipment can have maintenence logs
[13:42:48]<andygraybeal>nice
[13:42:56]<mstenta>Plantings can have Seedings, Transplantings, Inputs, and Harvest
[13:43:08]<mstenta>(in addition to Activities, Observations, and Movements, which all assets get)
[13:43:17]<andygraybeal>okay.
[13:43:26]<mstenta>logs can be marked as "Done" when they are done
[13:43:27]<andygraybeal>we should get together and you train me on this
[13:43:38]<mstenta>and it will show you a list of "Late tasks" if a log goes by and isn't marked done
[13:43:47]<mstenta>so it CAN be used for crop planning
[13:43:47]<andygraybeal>so your thinking about farmier accounts going for free if you get sponsership??
[13:43:59]<mstenta>it just requires a lot of data entry at this point... but I'd like to streamline it
[13:44:12]<mstenta>i'm thinking free instances of farmOS with sponsorship
[13:44:17]<mstenta>hosted by farmier
[13:45:16]<andygraybeal>what is sponsorship exacty?
[13:46:04]<mstenta>not exactly sure yet, but it would need to at least pay for the hosting cost of many sites
[13:46:40]<mstenta>but maybe i could start small, get some sponsorship, and open up a limited number of free slots on a first come first serve, or invite basis
[13:46:55]<mstenta>i think ultimately farmOS should be free for all
[13:47:16]<mstenta>but i need to make sure i can afford that, because there are costs involved with hosting, backups, upgrades, etc
[13:47:18]<andygraybeal>well farmos should be free i agree.. but i like you model with farmier
[13:47:22]<mstenta>and that doesn't include development at all
[13:47:25]<andygraybeal>pay for the farmmier accounts
[13:47:35]<mstenta>yea?
[13:47:45]<mstenta>maybe i'll do that too...
[13:47:54]<andygraybeal>i'm so confused.... :)
[13:47:55]<mstenta>i guess i need to start with that probably
[13:48:04]<andygraybeal>can you give me an example of sponsorship?
[13:48:39]<mstenta>sure, I guess what I have in mind is a big organization (like Fedco) committing to provide $X per year to host farmOS sites
[13:48:49]<andygraybeal>if you can get cropplanning down (just like cropplanner app does) and scheduled maintenance i can get you an account
[13:49:07]<mstenta>scheduled equipment maintenence?
[13:49:07]<andygraybeal>mstenta, okay - i understand and we are thinking the same manner.
[13:49:51]<mstenta>you can already schedule equipment maintenance... just create maintenance logs in the future
[13:49:53]<andygraybeal>yea, preventive maintenance schedule .. is what it is called
[13:50:00]<andygraybeal>ah rock on
[13:50:14]<mstenta>but i think you also talked about having automatically repeating tasks that auto-generate in the future... don't have that (yet)
[13:50:19]<andygraybeal>yes yes
[13:50:24]<mstenta>you still have to manually create tasks
[13:50:49]<mstenta>but you could easily create "Change oil in mower" and schedule a bunch of them like that in the future
[13:50:52]<andygraybeal>every 6 mos, oil change in irrigation engine;
[13:51:03]<mstenta>and I'm going to add a "Clone log" button soon, so you can make one, and then copy it over and over
[13:51:07]<andygraybeal>i understand
[13:51:32]<mstenta>"Logs" are the primary record keeping entity in the system
[13:51:35]<mstenta>1 log = 1 task
[13:52:07]<andygraybeal>can you look into some 'repeat meetings' with scheduling software code on other drupal code?
[13:52:11]<mstenta>and each log has a "Date" field, for when it was/will be done, and a "Done" checkbox, so you can say "yea i did this"
[13:52:48]<mstenta>yea, there are definitely options for auto-generating future logs! especially in Drupal... just haven't built anything officially for farmOS yet
[13:53:05]<mstenta>this beta1 release is what introduced a standardized Date and Done field to the Log entity... so that was the first step
[13:53:16]<mstenta>but now the groundwork is layed for auto-scheduling
[13:53:18]<mstenta>just gotta do it :-)
[13:53:23]<andygraybeal>so all i have is like a drop down that says: "Every: (week, biweek, month, bimonth, half year, year)
[13:53:35]<andygraybeal>rock on!!!
[13:53:37]<mstenta>yea something like that
[13:53:39]<andygraybeal>yey
[13:53:50]<andygraybeal>yea.. i never have the best thoughts.. but i have like.. basic thoughts
[13:53:53]<mstenta>you need to get a tablet!
[13:53:55]<andygraybeal>enough to get the idea across
[13:54:06]<mstenta>i'm designing this for mobile use
[13:54:22]<mstenta>needs wifi tho...
[13:54:40]<mstenta>brb i need to eat some lunch... brain is starting to get very hungry
[13:54:51]<andygraybeal>yea. tablets are handy.. specialy for demo @ mothe eath news in april!!!!!
[13:55:00]<andygraybeal>imma demo your shit!
[13:55:24]<andygraybeal>i need to get a quote done
[13:55:40]<andygraybeal>we should meet and you can train my sorry ass better
[13:55:45]<andygraybeal>talking on irc is one thing.....
[13:58:57]<mstenta>yea definitely
[13:59:03]<mstenta>so where is it in April?
[14:00:55]<mstenta>brb chickens going nuts outside...
[14:05:10]<andygraybeal>asheville NC in april
[14:05:12]<andygraybeal>PA in sept
[14:08:13]<andygraybeal>if i could help get you accounts.. i wonder if i could get some cash for demoing at shows.. if it is worth it to you etc.
[14:08:41]<andygraybeal>if you need to think about it that is cool.. i'll do it for free cause i believe in the app for now anyway.
[14:08:59]<andygraybeal>i'm just happy something like this exists and is active dev.
[14:09:26]<andygraybeal>i don't htink cropplanning is active dev and is lacks the strongest things that yours has.
[14:09:46]<mstenta>thanks andygraybeal! that would be cool
[14:10:30]<mstenta>yea i really need to figure out how to get farmOS sponsored
[14:11:16]<mstenta>april's a little too close... and PA is physically closer, so maybe i'll try to go to that one
[14:11:30]<andygraybeal>cool
[14:11:36]<andygraybeal>is mmn a friend or fed?
[14:11:37]<mstenta>boom: official 1.0-beta1 release! https://www.drupal.org/node/2461053
[14:11:41]<andygraybeal>haha nice
[14:11:50]<mstenta>haha fed? like federal agent?
[14:11:57]<andygraybeal>yea
[14:12:04]<mstenta>haha maybe
[14:12:07]<andygraybeal>shit
[14:12:09]<mstenta>mmn are you a fed?
[14:12:14]<andygraybeal>he hasn't spoken
[14:12:26]<mstenta>i spoke to him once
[14:12:28]<andygraybeal>i wondered if you knew him
[14:12:28]<mstenta>yesterday
[14:12:30]<andygraybeal>aah okay cool
[14:12:32]<andygraybeal>i missed it
[14:12:41]<mstenta>farmBOT: log pointer?
[14:12:41]<farmBOT>http://farmos.org/bot/log/farmos/2015-03-27#T3944
[14:13:00]<andygraybeal>looks like i need access
[14:13:05]<andygraybeal>to see the logs
[14:13:09]<andygraybeal>i'm just kiddin anyways
[14:13:15]<andygraybeal>i wondered if you knew him
[14:13:35]<andygraybeal>yea, sept 19-20 PA
[14:13:41]<mstenta>ah dangit, access denied? cmon farmBOT! get with it
[14:13:45]<andygraybeal>er 20-21.. anyway sept 20 is my bday!!!!
[14:13:54]<andygraybeal>shits all up to 37 now
[14:14:51]<andygraybeal>i'm gonna post the announce on FB -- do you have a farmos account?
[14:15:01]<andygraybeal>to share? or should i just post the url?
[14:15:32]<mstenta>wow!
[14:15:44]<mstenta>on facebook? no
[14:15:51]<andygraybeal>k cool, i'll post hte url
[14:15:54]<mstenta>cool!
[14:18:29]<mstenta>man... we just got a puppy over the weekend
[14:18:38]<mstenta>he's great! but so hyper right now!
[14:19:17]<andygraybeal>sounds like my kid. i can't get anything done cause he always wants to play.
[14:19:19]<andygraybeal>i don't blame him
[14:19:28]<andygraybeal>or he wants me to read him a book.
[14:20:59]<andygraybeal>posted to #gardening and #permaculture here on freenode
[14:21:56]<mstenta>awesome!
[14:23:28]<mstenta>ok now i really need to eat
[14:23:32]<mstenta>talk to you later andygraybeal!
[14:23:43]<andygraybeal>hey cool thanks for chatting!
[17:19:56]<andygraybeal>fancy email! thanks!
[17:20:01]<andygraybeal>looks good
[17:36:04]<mstenta>thanks andygraybeal! :-)
[17:36:16]<mstenta>hopefully start to drum up some excitement!
[17:36:48]<andygraybeal>what do you think if i demo it at shows? good things? bad things?
[17:36:50]<mstenta>i figure most farmers are already into their planning for this season, but hopefully my email will plant a seed.... :-)
[17:37:07]<mstenta>i would love it if you wanted to demo at shows
[17:37:11]<andygraybeal>i'm gonna start going to shows and selling tools.. and i might as well advertise this
[18:14:59]<andygraybeal>mstenta, yea.. maybe we/you could come up with a design and we could vinyl print it out.. so i could have a small section of a booth with tablet in forefront and poster in background with selling points
[18:15:19]<andygraybeal>and get cards made with your info with seeds
[18:15:51]<mstenta>i think that's a great idea
[18:15:58]<andygraybeal>work something with fedco
[18:16:14]<andygraybeal>i can figure out if there is such a thing
[18:16:57]<andygraybeal>i'll email my fedco guy right now see what he says
[18:17:42]<andygraybeal>i'm not a design guy.. i can't cut and paste with the worse of them though.. i know how to work with raster and vector
[18:17:58]<andygraybeal>err i can cut and paste with the worse of them
[18:18:51]<andygraybeal>maybe fedco could have a little advertising space on the business card too like on the back with planting instructions
[18:22:19]<andygraybeal>google says this is a thing:
[18:22:20]<andygraybeal>https://www.google.com/search?q=seeds+in+business+cards&num=100&client=u...
[18:22:24]<andygraybeal>now to see if fedco can help
[18:31:30]<mstenta>sounds good!
[18:31:57]<mstenta>gotta run for a bit... sap still boiling... check on the chickens, etc etc
[18:33:18]<andygraybeal>cool, i just emailed the gy
[18:33:22]<andygraybeal>guy
[18:43:01]* nosuni has joined #farmos
[18:45:30]<mstenta>hi nosuni, welcome to #farmOS :-)
[18:51:22]<andygraybeal>i like your name nosuni
[18:55:48]<nosuni>ty
[19:03:42]<andygraybeal>do you currently use any software to help around the garden?
[19:20:55]<nosuni>i use herb.iq to manage my cannabis grow :p
[19:32:33]<andygraybeal>imma look that up
[19:32:49]<andygraybeal>i never heard of it
[19:32:53]<andygraybeal>i've been using cropplanner
[19:33:05]<andygraybeal>and cutefarm
[19:35:31]<andygraybeal>mstenta plans to get sensor data integrated into farmos in the future :) i don't know if you use any sensors for your stuff.
[19:37:36]<andygraybeal>wow pretty specialized app, herb.iq :)
[19:37:49]<andygraybeal>looks like it could grow basil well.
[19:39:58]<nosuni>i would like to fully automate the grow
[19:40:13]<nosuni>with sensors and something like a raspberry pi
[19:40:34]<nosuni>that would be so cool :P
