[12:27:48]<andygraybeal>rjsteinert, hey i wonder if there is an alternative to your product in areas that don't have cellular coverage
[12:28:18]<andygraybeal>and i wonder a good way to read temperature and humidity in 10 greenhouses
[12:29:20]<andygraybeal>maybe also soil temperature

[15:44:14]<rjsteinert>Hi andygraybeal
[15:44:22]<andygraybeal>hi rjsteinert
[15:44:49]<rjsteinert>I'm currently working on a new version called Open Pipe Kit
[15:44:59]<rjsteinert>http://publiclab.org/wiki/open-pipe-kit
[15:46:06]<rjsteinert>Networking options will be Ethernet, WiFi, or Cellular
[15:46:16]<andygraybeal>nice
[15:46:54]<andygraybeal>what is "Grove" ?
[15:47:13]<rjsteinert>http://www.seeedstudio.com/wiki/GROVE_System
[15:47:39]<rjsteinert>Pluggable sensors for Raspberry Pi, Beagle Bone Black, or Arduino
[15:47:56]<andygraybeal>hmm cool
[15:48:42]<andygraybeal>you got a product i could run at this 10 greenhouse farm?
[15:48:53]<andygraybeal>at least for beta testing?
[15:48:59]<andygraybeal>the farmer is up for whatever
[15:49:13]<andygraybeal>he's got staffers and i'm ex-staffer
[15:49:52]<rjsteinert>Cool. Should have some betas in a month or two
[15:49:56]<rjsteinert>What's your timeline?
[15:50:10]<andygraybeal>no timeline
[15:50:24]<andygraybeal>just trying to keep up with technology
[15:50:49]<andygraybeal>i'm familiar with nagios as far as monitoring, recording, and alerting goes
[15:51:05]<rjsteinert>Cool man. We've worked with and tested this sensor which sounds like what you're interested in -> http://www.seeedstudio.com/wiki/Grove_-_Temperature_and_Humidity_Sensor
[15:51:30]<rjsteinert>Any preference on where the data goes?
[15:51:59]<rjsteinert>Like nagios?
[15:52:16]<andygraybeal>well... ideally the data is web accessible
[15:52:24]<rjsteinert>Munin? We actually track temp in munin righ tnow
[15:52:35]<andygraybeal>munin, yes that would be fine too.
[15:52:45]<andygraybeal>lemme look up munin again, ive heard of it
[15:52:54]<andygraybeal>does it keep history too?
[15:53:02]<rjsteinert>http://munin.treehouse.su/gar/fidos/grove1/grove_dht.html
[15:53:29]<rjsteinert>It's pretty ok for simple data collection
[15:53:32]<andygraybeal>here is the farm: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Green+Edge+Gardens/@39.4188694,-81.9767412,170m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0xfb755547647287a8
[15:54:19]<andygraybeal>rrdtool !!!
[15:54:55]<rjsteinert>aaaah looks nice
[15:54:56]<andygraybeal>i'm not used to munin, but i can learn.
[15:55:14]<rjsteinert>Here's where I lived this summer https://www.google.com/maps/place/Wild+Miller+Gardens/@43.157563,-70.976937,580m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x89e2923d3f8cd35d:0x10c3bd1a003ffe19
[15:55:43]<andygraybeal>very cool
[15:55:52]<andygraybeal>is that two greenhouses?
[15:56:08]<andygraybeal>ah no one greenhouse
[15:56:35]<rjsteinert>Oh look at that
[15:56:37]<rjsteinert>old photo
[15:56:41]<rjsteinert>There's three now :)
[15:57:01]<andygraybeal>is that power lines going through there? huge!!!!!
[15:57:28]<rjsteinert>haha ya
[15:57:54]<andygraybeal>very cool farm
[15:58:07]<andygraybeal>that's a very big barn / out building
[15:59:01]<rjsteinert>It's a wonderful place :)
[15:59:22]<rjsteinert>Cool to see some of stuff. Let's schedule a call to chat projects, I'm in another call right now so I gotta run.
[15:59:37]<rjsteinert>How's Tuesday night for you?
[16:00:48]<andygraybeal>oh fine... umm.. email!! andy@knivesandschives.com
[16:01:11]<andygraybeal>that farm has no cell reception
[16:02:08]<andygraybeal>is the stuff able to be outside for long periods of time?
[16:02:11]<rjsteinert>-> rj@rjsteinert.com
[16:02:16]<andygraybeal>cool
[16:02:37]<andygraybeal>you think we could have a sensor we shove into the compost piles?
[16:03:29]<rjsteinert>I've done temperature sensors in compost piles, those are definitely doable, other sensors might not work
[16:06:12]<andygraybeal>in the google maps link... you can see the compost pad right next to the three greenhouses off by themselves (2 houses are ajoined)
[16:14:46]<andygraybeal>you think this would be possible too ---> http://www.seeedstudio.com/wish/grove-one-wire-wind-speed-and-rainfall-s...

[17:44:17]<andygraybeal>rjsteinert, can this stuff hold up to being outside all the time?
[17:44:31]<andygraybeal>is there a soil moisture sensor?
[17:44:54]<andygraybeal>is there a co2 sensor? i see an o2 sensor
