[10:12:26]<mstenta>There we go. Fixed! :-)
[10:12:28]<mstenta>hi farmBOT!
[11:15:37]<andygraybeal_>:)
[11:16:09]<andygraybeal_>mstenta, just curious, you'd rather write up your own accounting than try an integrate ERPAL accounting?
[11:16:30]<mstenta>andygraybeal_: does ERPAL have double-entry bookkeeping
[11:16:31]<mstenta>?
[11:16:38]<mstenta>I've only seen mention of Commerce and CRM
[11:16:50]<andygraybeal_>hmmm
[11:16:53]<mstenta>those are not accounting systems
[11:16:59]<andygraybeal_>i thought it did accounting
[11:17:11]<mstenta>maybe it does... i haven't seen it
[11:17:13]<andygraybeal_>i wil look it up
[11:17:45]<mstenta>andygraybeal_: also, I started Ledger before Erpal existed... or at least before I knew of it :-)
[11:18:40]<mstenta>according to the project pages, about a year before Erpal started...
[11:18:49]<mstenta>https://www.drupal.org/project/ledger
[11:18:51]<mstenta>https://www.drupal.org/project/erpal
[11:19:06]<mstenta>the way I see it... Erpal should include Ledger...
[11:19:17]<mstenta>and FarmOS should include Ledger (and will)
[11:19:32]<mstenta>and maybe FarmOS should also include CRM... but it already includes Commerce
[11:19:46]<mstenta>Erpal and FarmOS are both "distributions"
[11:19:58]<mstenta>so they basically just include other modules... and configuration for them
[11:20:31]<mstenta>in other words... it's entirely possible for Erpal and FarmOS to share 90% of the same code
[11:20:41]<mstenta>they already do, probably
[11:21:11]<mstenta>Ledger is included in FarmOS already... but I never turn it on because I don't feel that it's ready for prime time
[11:23:27]<mstenta>it looks to me like Erpal has some features for recording expenses... maybe others... but I doubt that it is a double-entry bookkeeping system
[11:23:45]<mstenta>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-entry_bookkeeping_system
[11:25:56]<andygraybeal_>gotcha
[11:26:27]<andygraybeal_>hmm how can Erpal call it's self an ERP without an accounting system?
[11:26:51]<andygraybeal_>what your the guy who wrote Ledger?
[11:26:55]<andygraybeal_>very cool
[11:27:06]<mstenta>yep :-)
[11:27:55]<mstenta>it's always been a hobby project... but i still believe it has a lot of potential
[11:28:21]<mstenta>right now most people who do everything in Drupal still need something like Quickbooks for the bookkeeping side
[11:29:22]<mstenta>actually, I don't think "ERP" necessarily means that it needs to include accounting
[11:29:33]<mstenta>not real low-level accounting anyway
[11:30:11]<mstenta>definitely some resource management... but when it comes time to do your taxes, you don't look at your ERP you look at your Quickbooks
[11:30:32]<mstenta>at least that's my understanding... i can't claim to have a lot of experience... although my sister is an accountant :-)
[11:31:35]<mstenta>maybe I'm wrong... maybe ERP does include accounting usually... not sure (reading the wiki article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enterprise_resource_planning)
[11:31:42]<mstenta>they SHOULD, in my opinion :-)
[11:31:53]<mstenta>and Erpal should include Ledger :-)
[11:32:07]<mstenta>but they would have to contribute to it's development...
[11:32:21]<mstenta>before it's really usable to them... so maybe the incentive isn't there yet... everyone loves Quickbooks
[11:32:53]<andygraybeal_>yea.. man.. i'm so tired of quickbooks
[11:33:15]<mstenta>they've got the market share...
[11:33:19]<mstenta>scratch that. they ARE the market share
[11:33:23]<andygraybeal_>yea, like ms windows
[11:33:29]<mstenta>yup
[11:33:35]<mstenta>there are open source alternatives
[11:33:39]<mstenta>ever use GnuCash?
[11:34:55]<andygraybeal_>i've looked at it
[11:35:02]<andygraybeal_>i've wanted my women to use it
[11:35:06]<andygraybeal_>but i want something web-ified :)
[11:35:22]<andygraybeal_>i thought erpal was it :)
[11:35:52]<mstenta>feel free to give Ledger a try
[11:35:57]<mstenta>i don't make any promises though ;-)
[11:36:03]<mstenta>some people ARE using it
[11:36:09]<andygraybeal_>that is cool
[12:42:01]<andygraybeal_>do you think you'll have something that will have 'crop availability' for CSA customers to see?
[12:42:36]<andygraybeal_>say, i'm a customer and i wanna peek into my bag or make an adjustment, like maybe i don't want shiitake mushrooms this week, but some extra squash.
[13:15:42]<andygraybeal_>an interesting read: https://www.drupal.org/node/554924 -- it's got comments from 5 years ago.. and then it's got comments from 5 days ago... hahaha nothing in between
[13:16:30]<andygraybeal_>i think it is exciting! i can't wait to see this stuff in action
